Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Holocaust Museum Houston! HMH Volunteers help the Museum to meet its goal of bringing Holocaust education into the Houston community. At HMH, volunteer opportunities encompass a broad range of abilities and interests. Options include leading tours, helping in the gift shop, assisting with clerical duties, greeting guests, and facilitating public programming. Volunteers must be at least 15 years of age to be officially accepted and enrolled by HMH Visitor & Volunteer Services Department. Volunteer Position Descriptions

ADMISSIONS

Operating the admission’s desk is a fundamental duty to the museum. Promptly welcoming them in and letting them know you are ready to assist them sets the tone that we are here to help so they can have an impactful experience. Warm and exceptional customer service is key.

MUSEUM STORE

The Museum Store Volunteer assists visitors with product knowledge and ensures smooth transitions. Retail experience is a welcomed plus!

GREETER/FLOATER

The Greeter/Floater Volunteer is responsible for welcoming visitors in a friendly manner, answering any questions the visitor may have and informing visitors of museum information and guidelines.

GALLERY HOST

Our Gallery Hosts provide required attention to sensitive areas of HMH's permanent collection, Remind visitors of museum guidelines and field questions from the public. This is a perfect opportunity for those interested in the docent program but unsure of their commitment level.

OFFICE/ADMINSTRATIVE

Provide much-needed support in the administration of the Museum. Responsibilities of office volunteers include answering telephones, general office work such as copying, filing, and stuffing materials for mass mailings.

Process to Volunteering

Once you submit an application, you will be contacted by a museum representative to schedule an interview. All volunteers are required to submit a background check prior to orientation. Appropriate training will be provided during orientation.

Docent Program

Our docents are some of the most dedicated in the nation! An HMH docent is passionate about the museum’s mission to educate the public about the Holocaust. In order to be considered for our docent program, you must first volunteer with HMH for six months. Please contact the Visitor & Volunteer Services Department with any inquiries at volunteers@hmh.org.
