Boniuk Library

Boniuk Library is a research library serving the needs of students and researchers of all ages. The collection houses over 10,000 items relating to the Holocaust, human rights and the study of genocide.

About the Collection

Boniuk Library houses several unique collections. In addition to general and reference materials, researchers can take advantage of rare and difficult-to-find items, including:

  • Education Collection Resources on education and curriculum development.
  • Memorial Books Collection A collection of Yizkor books, which are books written by Holocaust survivors memorializing the cities they came from. Most of these materials are in Hebrew or Yiddish, but the Library also has some English translations available. Noncirculating.
  • Self-Published Memoir Collection Local Holocaust survivors share their stories in self-published and unpublished manuscripts. Noncirculating.
  • Special Collection A collection of rare books and books published before 1950. Most of our Special Collection items are stored off-site and require advance notice to view. Boniuk Library provides access to nearly 300 oral testimonies. These primary-source video interviews tell the stories of people who experienced the Holocaust, including survivors, liberators and witnesses. Most testimonies also have transcripts available. Oral Histories can be viewed on-site when the librarian is available; appointments are recommended. For more information about Holocaust Museum Houston’s Oral History Collection, see here.
